Connecticut Treasurer Erick Russell Elected Senior Vice President of National Association of State Treasurers

Hartford, CT — Connecticut Treasurer Erick Russell has been elected Senior Vice President of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST), placing him in a prominent leadership role with the organization representing state treasurers and other state financial officers across the country.
Russell, who currently serves as NAST’s Secretary‑Treasurer, was elected Monday by fellow state financial officers during NAST’s Annual Business Meeting in Detroit. His one-year term as Senior Vice President begins January 1, 2027.

As Senior Vice President, Russell will work with NAST’s President and executive leadership team to help shape the association’s goals and priorities. He will chair the committee that plans content for NAST conferences, including its Annual Meeting, and serve as liaison to the organization’s Corporate Affiliate Board.
Russell’s election continues his leadership within NAST. He previously served as Eastern Region Vice President and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer. He also serves on NAST’s Board of Directors and on committees focused on public finance and investment.
About Treasurer Erick Russell
Erick Russell was sworn in as Connecticut’s 84th State Treasurer in January 2023 and is serving his first term. As Treasurer, he oversees the state’s pension funds and trusts, cash and debt management, and unclaimed property program. He also serves as trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), the state’s 529 college savings program, and ABLE CT, a tax-advantaged savings program for people with disabilities.
Since taking office, Russell has launched initiatives to expand economic opportunity, including CT Baby Bonds, a first-in-the-nation program that invests $3,200 on behalf of every Connecticut baby whose birth is covered by HUSKY Health, the state’s Medicaid program. Under his leadership, the Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds (CRPTF) have grown to nearly $73.7 billion in assets through Fiscal Year 2026.
Russell is the first Black, out LGBTQ+ person elected to statewide office in U.S. history.
